Why buy RIUM ?
RIUM is different from conventional radioactivity sensors such as Geiger counters. Indeed, the Geiger meters only measures a radiation level. However, RIUM is able to give you information on the origins of measured radioactivity. For example: medical, industrial, natural, etc. Thus RIUM is a spectrometer able to compete with laboratory instruments. Thus, RIUM combines high performances, ease of use, and small size. Through its connectivity, RIUM allows all users to share their data and create a citizen network.
RIUM can also adapt to many professional and scientific uses.
World wide connectivity
Thanks to our mobile app’, RIUM is more than a sensor: it is a set of digital solutions. (Advices, mapping, etc.)
More than measuring a radiation rate, the RIUM technology is able to identify the origin of the radiation. It is a technology called γ spectrometry, and we coupled it with a detection of α and β particles.
Ease of use
With a well design case, RIUM is used with the ergonomic mobile app’. RIUM is for all customers, whatever your training and scientific background.
Compact and well design
Its design and dimensions allow RIUM to follow you everywhere: at home, on holidays, during your journeys, with friends,… Moreover, a case adapted to the extreme conditions will be available soon.
Universal connectivity and battery charging
To simplify your life, we have chosen to use standards connections, such as Bluethooth and microUSB.
Our technology is based on scintillators, such materials have the property of emitting light when they are exposed to ionizing radiation (γ, α, β, …).
Thanks to various innovations, we are able to propose an instrument with very high performances, a small size and a large autonomy.
Our technology allows us to identify γ radiation, detect β particles, and count α particles activity. The measurement of radon gas in real time, which is problematic in many houses, is possible with RIUM. For professionals, the development of a version suitable for neutron detection is possible!
The mobile app’
The application is developed with one objective: make easy the use of RIUM and allow you to understand your environment whatever your scientific background. For that purpose, we set up different reading levels. From a color code indicating the absence or presence of a danger to the raw technical data, three other reading levels are possible with a strong pedagogical content. The multiplicity of these views makes RIUM a useful educational tool for all of you.
We offer plenty of web services and with these the possibility to take full advantage of the RIUM users community. Local exposure comparisons, radioactivity maps, behavioral tips to minimize your exposure, homeland security, etc.
Last, but not least, we are working on a new use of RIUM : making the instrument the accessory of video games. This video game will be designed to make you discover the real, but invisible, world of radioactivity, and go looking for information in a funny way …
What is radioactivity ?
Radioactivity, and more generally ionizing radiation, is a natural phenomenon. They are found all over the world : in the earth, in the air, in water, in food … They come from matter, from space, from earth, from the sun, and even from your own body !
Ionizing radiations are particles, grains of matter or photons, which have acquired a phenomenal energy. These particles can hardly be observed directly, but the consequence of a collision or absorption with them is important. Their energy is such that they can change the structure of matter, ionize atoms, and kill living cells. On a living organism, irradiation can be the cause of so-called “radiation-induced” cancers.
There is no need to panic : We daily undergo such radiations without any risk as long as the dose, the quantity, of absorbed radiation remains low. But we must remain vigilant, not only with respect to human activities affecting radioactivity but also with respect to natural sources.
In order to helps to guard against overexposure, we propose a solution to measure our surrounding and away monitor the natural environment and sources related to human activities. Measuring and understanding this phenomenon, strange and invisible, allows you to better understand the world.

Icohup aims to develop high-performance yet low-cost sensors. The objective is to allow both the dissemination of these technologies to the general customers and the deployment of pollution sensors networks. At first we mainly work to design RIUM but other projects are underway in order to allow you to detect any type of pollution in your environment!
